Obituary for Catherine A. Kleissler

On Thursday, August, 22, 2019, Catherine “Katie” Anna (Conklin) Kleissler, loving mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 78. Catherine was born on December 14, 1940, in Wilkes-Barre, PA, to parents Genevieve and Peter Conklin. Catherine was baptized at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Wilkes Barre on January 1, 1941. She was confirmed in November, 1952. She moved to New Jersey and volunteered with the Vailsburg First Aid Squad. She married Robert Kleissler at Sacred Heart Church in Newark, NJ, on April 16, 1966. Catherine graduated from Union County College in 1983 with an Associates in Arts degree.

Catherine was inspired by her faith, which influenced her passion for helping people. She had a strong commitment to family; and for close to 20 years, she was a devoted wife and caring stay at home mother to three children. Catherine also served as a devoted caretaker for her mother and mother-in-law for many years. She worked as an Administrative Assistant at companies such as GPU Energy and Formosa Plastics, Inc. and was employed at Kohl's and Walmart. She was active in advocating for causes she felt important, especially those impacting women. She was a familiar face to her elected officials as she was never shy about expressing her desire for a better world. Her friendly nature and pleasant demeanor, along with her generous and loving heart, won her many friends. She particularly delighted in music and her singing provided a soundtrack for her children's youth. Her children and grandchildren inherited this love of music and have followed in her footsteps in both music and a passion for making the world a kinder place.

Catherine is predeceased by her parents Genevieve and Peter Conklin and her brother Richard Conklin. Catherine is survived by her three children, Maureen Kleissler Trzepla (Dave), Michael Kleissler, and James Kleissler (Jen). She is survived by her grandchildren Margaret, Elizabeth, Maura, and Laura; and Shelby, Riley, and Tyler (Jen).

A wake will be held at Dooley’s Funeral Home in Cranford, NJ, on Thursday, September 5th from 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Cranford, NJ, on Friday, September 6th, at 9:30 a.m. Following is burial at St. Catherine’s in Wall Township. Repast to follow.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Catherine’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
