Obituary for Manuel Lopez

Manuel Lopez, 82, of Cranford, N.J. entered eternal rest at home with his loved ones on April 9, 2019.
Manuel was born on January 8, 1937 in Trenton, N.J. and spent most of his youth in Newark.
Upon the completion of his high school, he proudly enlisted in the United States Navy in 1954. Manuel served on the USS Wisconsin and was honorably discharged in 1957, which he then continued to serve his country in the Reserve until 1962. Upon his discharge Manuel was employed by Celanese Plastic Corporation before he became a Longshoreman/Crane Operator at The Ports of Newark and Elizabeth for over 40 years.
Manuel was an avid outdoors man. He was extremely active in hunting and fishing, taking many trips across the country and Canada pursuing his passion for the outdoors. He experienced a two-day horseback excursion in Wyoming. His love for his hobby included training and raising beagles.
Manuel was an avid gardener attempting to grow his Spanish patron peppers in his Cranford backyard of over 57 years. His passion for the outside included sitting on his deck and enjoying the outside “critters”. He loved the NY Yankees and shared his dislike for the Red Soxs. Manuel loved to travel with his family and friends. His love for traveling included Marco Island, Florida, Cape May NJ, taking many cruises, and trips throughout the country and Spain.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He never missed a school or sport function for his two grandsons.
Manuel was predeceased by his parents, John and Remedios Lopez, brother John Lopez and son in law, Russell S. Wilde, Sr.
Manuel is survived by his wife, Beverley (nee Foley) of 58 years, two children, Tracy Wilde (nee Lopez) and Brian Lopez and wife Susan, two loving grandchildren Russell S. Wilde Jr. and Hayden Wilde who loved their Pop Pop dearly. He is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a funeral mass in his memory at St. Genevieve Church, 200 Monmouth Road, Elizabeth NJ on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at 10:30am.
In lieu of flowers and for those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to Tabby’s Place Cat Sanctuary (www.tabbysplace.org) or the Cranford First Aid Squad.
