Obituary for Manuel P. Bautista

Manuel Pilar Bautista, 67, has peacefully joined His Creator on Ascension Day, 30 May 2019, at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey. He was born in Cabatuan in the province of Isabela, Philippines. He is the fifth child of the seven children of Aurelio Bautista and Florenda Pilar Bautista. He attended high school at San Beda College Manila and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from San Beda University Manila in 1972. When he arrived in the United States in 2002, he returned to school to complete a Certified Nursing Assistant Course and obtained his CNA license the same year. He worked as a Nurse Aide at the Margaret Tietz Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in New York in 2002 until his retirement in 2017. He was always a farmer at heart, most of his annual leave days were spent going back home to Isabela, Philippines setting foot on the paddies of the rice field he owned, gazing with delight at the glow of the golden grain of palay (unhusked rice) before its harvest. During his free time, he played old piano pieces which he learned when he was a boy in the Philippines. He also started teaching his then 3-year old grandson Elijah basic piano keys. He was a sports aficionado be it football, soccer, basketball, hockey, golf, bowling and most especially baseball. A diehard Yankee fan, he has never missed watching their games at the stadium and on television while donning a Yankee uniform and cap, and cheering for them, win or lose. It was his dream to travel to Europe. After his retirement, together with his wife Priscilla, and family on several occasions, he went to many countries in Europe – Netherlands, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic and the last countries, before he passed away, were Denmark and Sweden. An animal lover, their Persian cat Juno was his baby at home. Manuel is survived by his wife Priscilla Pascual of Makati City, daughters Karmina Elma Bautista, M.D. and Lousella-Anne Bautista Garcia, son Reginald Bautista, son-in-law Jonathan Garcia and grandson Elijah Paul Garcia. Visitation will be at Dooley Funeral Home, 218 North Avenue, Cranford, NJ on Sunday 2 June, 2-5 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Monday 3 June, 9:30 a.m. at St. Michael’s Church, Alden Street, Cranford, NJ. Internment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, NJ.
