Obituary for Richard W. Dixon

Richard Dixon, age 77, died on August 20 at his home in Cranford, NJ. Richard was born in Long Island and lived most of his life in New Jersey, residing in Cranford for more than 40 years with his wife Margot at their home on Herning Avenue. The ultimate bon vivant, Richard had an unparalleled enthusiasm for life. He travelled the world, always eager to see new things and meet new people. He was deeply moved by the beauty and wonder of the world. He took great pride and pleasure in his children and grandchildren, and delighted in gatherings and traditions that brought his family together. He worked hard and enjoyed professional success, but always prioritized people and experiences over money. He was a lifelong devotee of the arts, a lover of good food and wine, a baker of tall cakes, and the ultimate host. He never lived a day without laughing. He was a formidable force for joy. A man of faith, he believed in living his life with hope, charity, and goodwill. His generosity, hospitality, and stories were legendary, and he was always the most fun person at any party. He was the embodiment of a life well lived. He will never be replaced and the world is little emptier and more boring without him. We should all aspire to live life as Richard did, full of family, friends, laughter, and love.

Richard is survived by his wife Margot, his children Richard Dixon, Jane DeMars, and Karen Dixon, his seven beloved grandchildren, and 48 cake plates.

Viewing hours will be held on Friday, 5-9pm, at Dooley’s Funeral Home, 218 North Ave. West, in Cranford. A service will be held Saturday, 10:30 am at St. Michael’s Church, in Cranford.
