Obituary for William T. Ard

William Thomas Ard, 92, of Ocean Township, New Jersey, passed away on January 10, 2020 after a brief illness. He was born in Queens, New York on October 17, 1927. Son of the late John and Anne Ard, William is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Elizabeth Ard (nee Donovan), his daughter Lizabeth, and his sons William (Billy), Christopher and Patrick. His beloved son Jonathan predeceased him in January 1992. William is also survived by eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Friday. January 17, 2020 (5 to 8 PM) at Dooley Funeral Home, 218 North Avenue, West in Cranford, NJ. The funeral service will be held at 9:30 AM on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at St. Michael’s Church at 40 Alden Street, Cranford, NJ. Burial will follow the Funeral at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, NJ.

William served his country honorably in the Marines during World War II for five years, two of which were stationed in China. After graduating from St. Peter's College in Jersey City, NJ, William pursued a career in real estate, first as a sales broker, then as the tax assessor for the city of Elizabeth, before founding the ARD Appraisal Company in 1965. William was a member of the Appraisal Institute, holding the prestigious MAI designation since the 1960s. William officially retired from the business in 2010 at the age of 83, at which time his son Patrick took over the business.

A lifelong NY Giants fan and season ticket holder since 1963, William had the honor and thrill of watching his son William (Billy Ard-Number 67) play for the Giants for eight years. An avid golfer, he was a member of Plainfield County Club for more than 30 years. Some of the greatest joys included seeing two of his sons (Christopher and Patrick) join the family business, seeing his daughter Lizabeth start her own aesthetician and skin care business, watching his son Billy win the 1986 Super Bowl (Giants vs. Broncos), watching his grandson Brendan win two NJ State wrestling championship titles, and getting a hole in one at Pebble Beach golf course.
