The funeral home was founded in 1913 by Charles E. Dooley in a house that stood on the same location as the current funeral home. During this time it was still common for people to have visitation in their own homes, as a result much of our work was done in locations around the area.
Funeral for Msgr. John Walsh, 1958.
Our current owner, Charles V. Dooley, is a 1981 graduate of the University of Maine at Orono and a 1984 graduate of the American Academy McAllister School of Embalming. A member of the business since 1981, Charlie first bought a partial share in the funeral home in 1990; he became the sole owner in 2009. He is a communicant of St. Michael's Church in Cranford, an assistant scoutmaster with Boy Scout Troop #75 chartered by the Cranford United Methodist Church, a coach with the Westfield Fencing Club, and a member of the Ft. Dix Rod and Gun Club. In March of 2011, Charles was honored by the New Jersey State Assembly and the Cranford Board of Education for his compassionate and outstanding service.
He and his wife, Angela Napolitano Dooley have 4 children—Rae, a Physical Therapist in Montreal; Vincent, a funeral director working in the business after returning from time in US Marine Corps; Samantha, a Licensed Social Worker in New Jersey; and Tess, a student at The College of New Jersey.
Charles, Angela, Vincent, and our staff are available 24 hours a day to answer your questions and provide assistance to you throughout the process of organizing services for your loved ones.
